Description

Jeanne Kilpatrick Ghent was an award-winning English Professor at Monroe Community College (MCC) in Rochester, NY from 1971 until 1997. Prior to this, she was a high school teacher for 15 years in Rochester and Brooklyn, NY. Her 41-year teaching career was a labor of love - a living affirmation of the values instilled in her by her parents, centering on the notion that education is the key to success.

Ghent wrote this stirring collection of poems as a young woman coming of age in New York City. The verses contained herein express her intimate views on love, life and faith. She passed away at the age of 86 just weeks before this book was published.

Professor Ghent earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Hunter College where she was vice president of her senior class and was listed in "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" in 1953. Among her numerous professional accolades are: the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; The Black Student Board of MCC; and the Standing Committee on Blacks in Higher Education, a Rochester, NY Group.

Professor Ghent was married to Dr. James A. Ghent, Jr. from 1961 until he passed away in 2016. They owned and operated a small horse farm in Churchville, NY for over 25 years. She had three adoring children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her passion for literature and deep ties to her church community, Ghent loved music and was especially fond of singing, dancing and spending time at home with family and friends.
